TYPES OF GLASSES
THERE IT IS…the LED backLIT section of the department store. All you see is a plethora of eyes— dark, expensive, mirrored, brightly colored, small framed, large framed, big, wraparound, polarized, tinted, reflective, rimmed, oversized, eyes staring back at you. You immediately fall to the ground sobbing uncontrollably because you can’t bare the thought of even beginning to decide which pair is THE pair for you…. no? just me?. Ok you’re right I was a theatre major .. the DRAMA is REAL..BUT NO seriously WHICH DO YOU CHOOSE? HOW DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHERE TO START?
I’ve created a tips and tricks step by step guide to help you pick the perfect pair of shades to keep the haters away!! (and to keep you far away from that return line!)
KNOW YOUR FACE SHAPE
WAIT WHAT??… WHAT’S MY FACE SHAPE?
Knowing what shape your face is will play a huge factor in the “picking process” and help minimize the amount of time you spend in the SUNGLASS SECTION at the department store.
Here are 3 easy steps on how to determine your face shape:
STEP 1 : Open Instagram or Snapchat. Take a smiling selfie straight on with your hair pulled away from you face.
STEP 2 : Using the “draw” tool, take your pointer finger starting at your ears and trace the jaw line. This trace will reveal a shape outline.
STEP 3: Identifying your facial shape:
There are many shapes that make up the jawline of the face. The most popular shapes are:
If you’re starting to think It looks like a hybrid of two or three shapes don’t panic- go with your gut feeling!
CHOOSING THE RIGHT TYPE OF GLASSES
Now that you’ve identified your face shape here are some of the best options of sunglass styles for your facial line:
Small round Lens
Oversized round Lens

Oval! Oval! Oval!

FIND A PAIR THAT “SPEAKS TO YOU”’
You heard me, you know the shape and style now grab a pair that makes you feel good!! Don’t be afraid to pick a funky pair or a pair that matches your “go to” outfit - matching is SOO IN now-a-days!
WEAR THE SUNGLASSES WHILE YOU SHOP AROUND
The most common mistake most people make is buying a pair, wearing them for a day and realizing they HURT.
Wether it be the nose is too tight/loose or the arms of glasses hurt your ears coming to terms that you’ve made the WRONG decision and are now stuck with a terrible option puts you in absolute dismay. SO, to avoid this from happening I’ve come up with the “Sunglass Shop Around”. While your shopping wear the sunglasses you are interested in purchasing around the store. AND if anyone says “Ma’am take your sunglasses off inside” or “you can’t wear the product while you shop around” just say you’re testing out THE PAIR (trust me noooobody is gonna say this). Just make sure you don’t forget to pay for them before you leave (obvi). I promise you’ll be happier with the outcome having worn them for longer than 20 seconds prior to purchase.
!!! MORE EXPENSIVE DOES’NT MEAN BETTER or HIGHER QUALITY !!!
I used to believe the price tag ($$$) proved the quality and ware of the sunglasses. Little did I know my Celine White Retro Polarized One of-a-kind glasses would stretch out over a 3 month period but my $5 amazon glasses would last almost 5 years longer.
Cheaper may be better when it comes to awesome sunnies….
ALWAYS ASK FOR A CASE AT CHECKOUT
Most high-end department stores like Saks, Bloomingdales, Macys, and Sunglass Hut will give you a case at checkout with your sunglass purchase, but some stores like Saks Off Fifth, and small shops/boutiques keep complimentary sunglass cases behind the register/in the back. So don’t be afraid to say “Do you have a sunglass case?” before leaving the store. You are ENTITLED to give your new babies a perfect sleeping carriage.
